Johannes itten was a swiss painter and important teacher at the bauhaus in weimar. Trained as an elementary school teacher itten joined the first instructors at the bauhaus where he was a master from 1919 1923. In october 1919 itten was appointed as one of the first masters at the staatliches bauhaus in weimar by walter gropius.
